Meet the Artist

Won Kim is a multidisciplinary artist residing and working in Eora/Sydney. From a young age, she possessed a natural inclination for creating and crafting by hand, earning art awards during her formative years. After studying Graphic Design and gaining experience as a sign writer and tattoo parlour manager, her artistic vision and passion for ongoing art practice became clearer.

Working primarily with acrylic ink on paper, Won's artwork is a unique amalgamation of tattoo imagery, Korean Folk Art (Minhwa), and its symbolism. A significant influence on her work is her late uncle, Master Man Hee Kim, a revered figure in Korean Folk Art and a devoted restorer of traditional paintings. Motivated by her uncle's legacy, she honours his wishes by creating her own Minhwa style, thus keeping the tradition alive. ​
